A living tree, roots and all. The potted Nordmann is never cut: it arrives alive, with its root ball, in a pot filled with compost. That is what explains how well it holds — no drying out, no needles on the floor, and a full shape that lasts right through the holidays.

Its soft needles do not prickle, its even branches carry decorations easily, and after Christmas you can keep it.

    Really enjoyed having a potted tree this year, which has stayed alive throughout the holiday period and easier to keep watered. No needle shedding and we’ll take it out into the garden now. Would recommend!

The potted Christmas tree is the living version of our Nordmann: a real Nordmann fir with its roots, delivered in its growing pot, with potting soil and a saucer. Because it is not cut, it stays fresh for longer, and you can plant it in your garden after the holidays. Available from 125 to 200 cm, from €115, it is delivered to your door anywhere in Belgium between 18 November and 20 December, on the date of your choice. Below you will find everything you need to choose the right size, set it up, look after it and give it a second life. You can also browse all our trees in the Nordmann trees category.

Why choose a potted Nordmann tree?

  • A living tree. Its roots keep feeding it: the needles stay soft and green throughout the holidays, as long as you water the soil.
  • A possible second life. After Christmas, you can plant it in the ground or keep it in a larger pot on your terrace.
  • Ready to place. It arrives in a black pot filled with potting soil, with its saucer. No cross to fix, no stand to buy.
  • Needles that don't prickle. The Nordmann has flat, soft needles that are pleasant to handle when decorating.
  • A neat conical shape. Its tiers are even and well spaced, so baubles and lights are easy to place.
  • Grown in Belgium. Our potted Nordmann trees are of Belgian origin.

Potted or cut tree: which should you choose?

Both are real Nordmann firs. The difference is the roots. The cut Nordmann tree is felled from 20 November and lives on its reserves; the potted Nordmann fir keeps its roots and keeps drinking from its soil.

Looking for a tree taller than 2 metres? Our potted range stops at 200 cm. For a high ceiling, choose a large cut Nordmann tree.

A Nordmann grown in a pot, not simply dug up

A tree pulled out of the field just before Christmas often loses a good part of its roots. Our potted trees are grown in growing pots: their roots have developed inside the pot, which clearly improves their chances of taking root again after the holidays. It is also why it holds up so well in your living room: it arrives with its root system, not with a root ball cut down to the minimum.

The Nordmann fir (Abies nordmanniana) comes from the Caucasus. It grows slowly, which gives it dense branches and an even silhouette. Its needles are dark, glossy green on top, with two lighter lines underneath. Its scent is subtle, an advantage in a flat or an office. To learn more about this species, read our article Nordmann Christmas tree: 7 things to know before you buy.

What size of potted tree should I choose?

The stated height is measured from the floor to the tip, pot included. Each tree falls somewhere within its size range. Allow for a width of about half the height.

Size (pot included)Best forPrice
125 – 150 cmFlat, corner of a living room, office€115
150 – 175 cmLiving room with a standard ceiling€135
175 – 200 cmLarge living room, entrance hall€155

As the pot is included in the measurement, the foliage starts a little higher than on a cut tree: if in doubt, go one size up. Also leave 20 to 30 cm between the tip and the ceiling for a star or tree topper. For a table, a terrace or a child's bedroom, have a look at our small potted Nordmann tree (60 cm).

Potted tree delivery anywhere in Belgium

Your real Christmas tree in a pot is delivered from 18 November to 20 December. You choose the date when you order; the day before, you receive an email and a text message with the delivery time slot. Delivery days depend on your region:

  • Brussels, Walloon Brabant and Flemish Brabant: every day;
  • Wallonia: Monday and Wednesday;
  • Flanders: Tuesday and Thursday;
  • Luxembourg: three dates per season.

The tree travels in its pot, wrapped in a protective net. All the details are in our delivery information. Living in or near the capital? See also our pages on Christmas tree delivery in Brussels and delivery in Walloon Brabant.

Ordering early gives you more choice of sizes and delivery dates. To see how our customers plan their tree each year, take a look at our Christmas Tree Barometer 2026.

Setting up your potted tree indoors

  1. Choose the spot before delivery. The pot full of soil is heavy, so it is best to move it only once.
  2. Keep it away from heat. No radiator, fireplace or stove nearby. A cool, bright room, close to a window, suits it best.
  3. Remove the net carefully. Cut it from the bottom up and give the branches a few hours to settle. A few needles drop at this point: that is normal.
  4. Stand the pot on its saucer. It protects your floor when you water.

Watering and caring for a potted tree

This is the golden rule: a potted tree drinks through its soil. Check the soil every two or three days by pushing a finger into it. If the surface is dry, water gently until the soil is moist, then empty any water left in the saucer: the roots should not sit in water. A light mist on the branches also helps in a room with dry air. The cooler and brighter the room, the longer your Nordmann will stay beautiful.

If you plan to plant it out, keep its time in the warmth short: the longer a living tree stays in a heated room, the more it comes out of its winter rest, and the harder it becomes for it to settle in the garden.

Decorating a potted Nordmann tree

Its even tiers suit every style. Choose LED Christmas lights, which give off very little heat: your living tree will thank you. Start with the lights, working out from the trunk, then add the baubles, with the largest ones towards the bottom. Our guide how to put lights on a Christmas tree shows you the method step by step.

The black pot is simple, but you can dress it with a tree collar, a tree skirt or a basket: just check the pot's diameter before choosing. You will find several models among our Christmas accessories. Avoid wrapping the pot in anything watertight, so that you can still water and check the soil.

How long does a potted tree last?

Because it is not cut, a potted Nordmann lasts longer than a cut tree. How well it holds up depends mainly on three things: room temperature, light and watering. A tree in a cool room, near a window, with soil that is always slightly moist, easily lasts through the whole festive season. On the other hand, a dark, overheated corner tires it faster: its branches may droop and its needles lose their shine.

After the holidays: planting out your Christmas tree

Several customers tell us in their reviews that their tree found a place in the garden after Christmas. Here is how to replant a potted Christmas tree in the best conditions:

  1. Acclimatise it. Keep it for 2 to 3 days in a cool, unheated place (garage, conservatory, shed) before taking it outside. Going straight from a 20 °C living room to a garden below zero can kill it.
  2. Wait for a frost-free spell. Do not plant in frozen ground; in the meantime, keep it outside in its pot, sheltered from the wind, and keep watering.
  3. Choose an open spot. A sunny or partly shaded place, in soil that drains well. Leave plenty of room: planted in the ground, a Nordmann becomes a large tree over the years.
  4. Plant without damaging the roots. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball, gently take the tree out of the pot, set it at the same level as in the pot, fill in and firm lightly.
  5. Water generously, then regularly during the first months, especially in spring.

No garden? You can keep your potted tree outdoors, on a terrace or balcony, by repotting it into a larger container with drainage holes. Water it all year round: a conifer in a container dries out faster than one in the ground.

To be honest, success is never guaranteed. Thanks to pot growing, we estimate that around 50% of trees take root again. If yours does not, it can be recycled like a cut tree: find out how in our article what happens to your Christmas tree after the holidays.

A potted tree for your business

Yes. The tree is delivered in a black pot filled with potting soil, with its saucer.

Does the height include the pot?

Yes, the size is measured from the floor to the tip, pot included.

Do you sell potted trees taller than 2 metres?

No, our potted trees go up to 200 cm. For anything taller, choose a cut Nordmann, available up to 300 cm.
