This Nordmann fir Christmas wreath measures 50 cm — the classic size for a front door. It is made from fresh natural branches, not synthetic foliage, and the difference shows at a glance.
A wreath has no water reservoir. Hung on a door or laid on a table, it begins drying from the first day — and the species is what decides how long it lasts.
Nordmann is the conifer that holds its needles best, far better than spruce. Where a spruce wreath thins out within ten days, this one carries through December. Its needles stay supple, deep green and do not prickle — which matters on something hung at hand height.
On the outside of the front door: that is its natural place, and unlike pre-lit wreaths, nothing here can be damaged. Cold preserves it better than the warmth of a living room.
Indoors it sits on a wall, a mirror or a window, or lies flat on a table as an Advent wreath around four candles. In that case keep it away from a radiator — dry heat is what wears it out fastest.
Two habits are enough. Mist it with water every two or three days, ideally in the evening. And avoid full sun behind glass. Allow three to four weeks indoors, longer outside in cold weather.
It stands on its own, but takes a personal touch well: a red velvet bow, a few small baubles in one colour, pine cones, or a fine battery-powered string of lights tucked between the branches. Keep it asymmetric, on one side.
Entirely natural, it goes out with the green waste like a Christmas tree. Simply remove anything you added.
