Artificial Snow and Snow Spray

Artificial snow adds the one thing a heated room cannot produce: the appearance of cold. Three forms exist, and they do not serve the same purpose.

Snow spray

Snow in a can is sprayed straight onto branches, windows or a display. It is the most precise form: you control the amount, emphasise the tips and leave the rest bare. Spray from thirty centimetres, in short bursts, always from the same side — as though the snow fell from one direction. An even coat over the whole tree looks like paint, not snow. Protect the floor first, and work in a ventilated room.

Snow powder

Snow powder is scattered: on a table, in a nativity scene, inside a wreath, along a windowsill. Finer and lighter than spray, it stays where you put it and lifts away with a vacuum.

Mats and rolls

A snow mat goes under the tree, under a nativity scene or in a shop window — a fine alternative to a tree skirt in a wintry scheme. Rolls cut to size. Their advantage over spray: they store and come out again year after year.

On which surface

On a real Nordmann or a green artificial tree, artificial snow adds the relief that is sometimes missing. On an already flocked tree, it reinforces the barer areas.

Frequently asked questions

How do you make artificial snow stay on a tree?

Spray bonds on its own as it dries: apply to clean, dry branches and let it harden for an hour before decorating. For powder, a fine mist of water or hairspray beforehand holds it far better.

Does artificial snow stain?

Not on an artificial tree: it comes off with a dry cloth or a vacuum. On fabric or a pale floor, cover before spraying — the floor is the problem, not the tree.

Can it be used outdoors?

Spray lasts a few days under shelter, but rain washes it off. For a terrace or an exposed window, choose a mat or a roll instead.

How much snow for one tree?

One can for a light effect on a 150 cm tree, two for a distinctly snowy finish on 180 to 210 cm. Start light — you can always add more.
