What Size Christmas Tree Should You Choose? The Guide Based on Your Ceiling Height
150, 180, 210 cm… or even bigger? Choosing the right size Christmas tree is the secret to a harmonious interior: too small and it gets lost in the room, too big and it touches the ceiling, leaving no room for the topper. In this guide, we give you a simple method based on 3 measurements and a clear table to find the ideal size for your real or artificial Christmas tree, and for the decoration set that goes with it.
📏 The golden rule: start with your ceiling height
The first thing to measure is the ceiling height of the room where your Christmas tree will stand. But be careful: the height of the tree is not its final height! You also need to add:
- The stand: a cross stand or a water stand raises the tree by about 10 to 15 cm.
- The topper: a star or tree topper often adds 15 to 25 cm.
- A safety margin: leave about 10 cm below the ceiling so you can put the topper in place without forcing it.
👉 In short: ceiling height – 35 to 50 cm = maximum height of your Christmas tree. In a standard 2.50 m room, a tree of 175 to 200 cm is ideal.
🌲 The table: what size Christmas tree for your ceiling?
| Ceiling height | Recommended real tree | Recommended artificial tree | Decoration set |
|---|---|---|---|
| Less than 2.30 m | Nordmann 125-150 or 150-175 cm | 150 cm | 1 to 2 m size |
| 2.30 to 2.50 m | Nordmann 175-200 cm | 180 cm | 1 to 2 m size |
| 2.50 to 2.90 m | Nordmann 200-250 cm | 210 cm | 2 to 3 m size |
| 2.90 to 3.40 m | Nordmann 250-300 cm | — | 2 to 3 m size |
| 4.50 m and more (hall, business) | Large Nordmann 350-400 cm | Big Ben 400 cm | Made to measure |
Can't decide between two sizes? For a living room with a standard ceiling, the 180 cm Christmas tree remains the most versatile choice. The 210 cm is perfect for taller rooms, townhouses or high ceilings.
↔️ Don't forget the width (and the space around it)
We often think about height… and forget about width! A Nordmann Christmas tree is a generous tree: allow for a width of about two thirds of its height. A 180 cm tree can therefore be more than a metre wide at the base.
- Measure the available floor space before ordering.
- Leave about 50 cm of space around the tree so you can move around it and place the presents.
- Keep it away from radiators and heat sources: a real tree will keep its needles longer.
For a small space, a balcony or a table, consider compact sizes: the small potted Nordmann (60 cm) or the potted Nordmann (125-150 cm).

✨ Decorated Christmas tree: the right set for the right size
Once you've chosen the size, it's time to decorate! A 2.50 m tree isn't decorated the same way as a 1.50 m one: you need more baubles, larger diameters and a longer string of lights. That's why our decoration sets come in two sizes:
- 1 to 2 m size: for trees up to 200 cm, the vast majority of homes.
- 2 to 3 m size: for large trees, with more volume and bigger pieces.
The sets can be ordered on their own or together with your tree, depending on your needs. And if you choose both, our tree + decoration set packages come with a 10% discount: the easiest way to get a perfectly proportioned decorated Christmas tree. ❓ Christmas tree size: frequently asked questions
What is the best-selling Christmas tree size?
For a home with a standard ceiling of 2.40 to 2.50 m, the 175-200 cm (real) and 180 cm (artificial) sizes are the most versatile.
Does the stated height include the stand?
No: the height refers to the tree itself. Allow an extra 10 to 15 cm for the stand and 15 to 25 cm for the topper.
Which stand should I choose for my tree size?
For a real tree, we offer a water stand for trees from 1 to 2 m and a water stand for large trees from 2 to 3 m. A water stand also keeps your tree fresh for longer.
Will my real tree be exactly the size I ordered?
A real Christmas tree is a living tree: its height will fall within the size range you chose (for example between 175 and 200 cm). If your ceiling is tight, choose the lower size range.
Which decoration set for a 210 cm tree?
From 2 m upwards, we recommend the 2 to 3 m size, to keep your tree well filled from top to bottom.
Do you deliver throughout Belgium?
